Colour samples vary with the wood and preparation. Test on your own timber first.

Plan your sauna exterior
Enter the total wood area you plan to treat.
Add the surfaces to oil; subtract windows and doors.
2–4 Lestimated total for 2 coats (minimum)
Based on LIVOS Canada’s coverage of 50–100 sq ft per litre for two coats. Suggested containers cover the higher oil estimate. Additional coats require more oil. Wood texture, preparation and absorption affect actual coverage; test a small area first.
Sauna-specific application
Check that the wood is suitable, dry and absorbent. Existing coatings may need removal or specific preparation. Follow the technical data sheet rather than simply oiling over an unknown finish.
Make a test area using the same surface preparation as the whole sauna. Review the dried appearance before you settle on a colour and quantity.
Apply the first coat following the product instructions, then allow about 24 hours before the second. Confirm that the surface is dry enough to recoat; cooler or more humid conditions can extend the wait.
Before you begin
From preparing the timber to the final drying time, follow the steps for your finish. Plan at least two coats with about 24 hours between applications.
A few helpful details
Plan approximately 24 hours after the first coat before applying the second, following the recommendation from the Canadian LIVOS representative. The surface must be ready to recoat; temperature, humidity and wood absorption can change the drying time.
ALIS is intended for exterior solid wood, including façades. That makes exterior sauna cladding an appropriate use to assess, provided the timber, preparation and existing finish meet the manufacturer’s instructions. It is not an interior sauna treatment.
Although the original product packaging says “Natural Oil for Decking,” LIVOS also specifies exterior façades. This page focuses on outer sauna walls and cladding. Confirm preparation and application for that timber with the instructions supplied for your product.
Choose on the actual wood, not the screen alone. Species, sanding and previous treatments change the result. For sunlight-exposed cladding, consider a pigmented colour: Clear has no UV protection and Natural has limited protection.
Measure the timber area and note whether it is rough, planed or sanded. Plan for at least two coats, then use the product coverage guidance and a test application to confirm quantity. The calculator estimates the two-coat minimum; additional coats require more oil. Rough or absorbent timber can need more oil than a smooth surface.
Use a finish intended for the interior surface. MELDOS 264 is the LIVOS option here for compatible solid-softwood sauna interiors. Confirm the specific wood and surface before applying it.
