Its clear to slightly honey-toned finish enriches the grain; choose it for a compatible interior surface after checking your sauna maker’s care instructions.

Based on LIVOS Canada’s MELDOS coverage calculator: 5.58 mL per sq ft for the first coat and 2.79 mL per sq ft for the second. For compatible interior solid softwoods; confirm the species and surface first. Additional coats require more oil. Wood texture, preparation and absorption affect actual coverage; test a small area first.
Sauna-specific application
Identify the wood and follow the sauna maker’s care recommendations. MELDOS is an option for compatible solid softwoods; it is not a universal finish for every sauna interior.
Follow the supplied instructions for application and removal of surplus oil. Allow approximately 24 hours after the first coat before applying the second, making sure the surface is ready to recoat.
Give the final coat time to dry completely and ventilate the sauna as instructed. Approximately 24 hours is the planned gap between coats, not a promise that the sauna is ready to use.
Before you begin
From preparing the timber to the final drying time, follow the steps for your finish. Plan at least two coats with about 24 hours between applications.
A few helpful details
Yes. LIVOS includes sauna use in its instructions for this interior solid-softwood oil. Follow the sauna-specific application method and check the wood species and surface with your sauna maker.
Cedar is among the softwoods listed for MELDOS, along with pine and fir. Confirm that the surface is solid wood and suitable for treatment, then test a small area to see the colour and absorption.
Do not choose by the word “sauna” alone. Bench timber may be a hardwood such as aspen or alder, which falls outside the stated softwood use. Confirm the exact species, surface and recommended treatment with the sauna and oil manufacturers.
Yes. MELDOS can add a slight honey tone and deepen the grain. The effect varies with the timber and preparation. Review a dried sample if you want to preserve a particular look.
Plan at least two coats with approximately 24 hours between them, following the Canadian LIVOS representative’s recommendation. Prepare the wood, apply and remove surplus oil as instructed, and allow complete drying and ventilation before sauna use.
Keep the sauna treatment simple and do not add a wax or other topcoat unless it is specifically recommended for your surface. For outdoor sauna cladding, explore ALIS 579 exterior wood oil instead.
